Israeli Airstrike Kills Senior Hezbollah Commander in Southern Lebanon

On Monday, an Israeli airstrike took place in southern Lebanon, which resulted in the death of a senior commander of the militant group Hezbollah. A Lebanese security official reportedly confirmed the news.

According to sources, the incident took place amid the ongoing clashes between Iran-backed Hezbollah militants and the Israeli military along the Lebanon-Israel border.

Moreover, the incident reportedly happened after the recent Israeli strike happened last week. In the reported incident, the troop targeted a top official from the militant Palestinian group Hamas in Beirut.  In addition, just two days ahead of the airstrike, Hezbollah launched a widespread missile attack on an Israeli military base in Mount Meron, situated in northern Israel, in retaliation.

The Israeli military refused to give any comments regarding the reported airstrike incident and attack.  However, the concerned authority confirmed that the military has planned retaliation, and is across Hezbollah infrastructure in southern Lebanon.

On the terms of anonymity, a Lebanese security official said the airstrike targeted a commander from Hezbollah’s elite Radwan Forces. The strike hit a Honda SUV, when the commander was driving it, in the southern village of Khirbet Selm.

Hezbollah has yet to respond to requests for comment on the incident.

Since October 8, Hezbollah has been actively carrying out attacks on Israeli military posts along the border. This escalation follows a Hamas-led attack on southern Israel, which occurred on the same day, resulting in the death of 1,200 people, predominantly civilians, and the taking of 250 hostages. These events triggered a devastating war in Gaza.

Israel has responded with airstrikes on the Lebanese side of the border, resulting in the deaths of at least 151 Hezbollah members.

The situation remains fluid as tensions continue to mount between the two sides along the volatile Lebanon-Israel border.
